More than two-thirds of renters view down payments as a barrier to owning a home.
Urban Institute recently released a report entitled, “Barriers to Accessing Homeownership: Down Payment, Credit, and Affordability,” which revealed that,

Renters see the inability to save for a down payment as one of the leading obstacles to homeownership. More than two-thirds
of renters surveyed indicated that affording the down payment was a barrier to becoming a homeowner.
Corroborating this, the bottom figure shows that 36 percent of consumers find it very difficult to save for a down payment,
and another 30 percent find it somewhat difficult. Only 16 percent of renters said that it was not at all difficult to save for a
down payment.
